In our first project beyond the Duwamish Residency, Fiona McGuigan and I are very excited to share with you the results of our first shot at curation. Thanks to Besty Featherson, director at Columbia City Gallery, for the invitation. This exhibition embraces the varied interpretations of the Duwamish River by artists Claire Cowie, Tim Cross, Iskra Johnson, Gillian Theobald, Chandler Woodfin and Anna-Maria Vag. Each artist has a known or unknown connection to the river. The opening reception is tonight and we hope you'll join us.

Just over an hour north of Seattle you'll find a little gem of a place called Edison. Where once there were numerous boarded up buildings in the middle of the always beautiful Skagit Valley agricultural fields, now you'll find art galleries, restaurants, shops and some long-standing bars. i.e.gallery was started there by David Kane and Margy Lavelle less than a year ago. Two more gems. While Margy is solo now, no need to worry because you'll still frequently find David there too. I'm thrilled to be included in the line-up this month with Heidi Epstein. Please stop by if you're up north, and don't miss the Jacqueline Barnett retrospective and the Museum of Northwest Art not far away in LaConnor while you are there.

Bridge to The Future!

Well, there's no way around it. I'm super excited about Sharon Arnold's new venture, Bridge Productions, and that she will be representing my work, along with work by Julie Alpert, Tim Cross, Emily Gherard, Kat Johnson and David Kennedy. The new gallery is located in the heart of Georgetown (Seattle) where The Alice Gallery and Interstitial Gallery are located, creating a unique gallery hub. More information about the opening exhibition on March 12 coming soon!

Writer's Hat

I'll be putting it on in public Thursday night during The Henry Art Gallery open house by reading a couple of prose poems inspired by work in the permanent collection. But I won't be alone. Other students from Anca Szilagyi's class, offered through the Hugo House which I took a couple of years ago, will also be sharing their art-inspired writings. Please join us.

Drawn to Scale - Last Week

It's the last week for Drawn to Scale, an excellent group show. I'm very honored to have my work included because I've admired the work of the other artists in this show for years. The exhibit includes contrasting sizes of work, one small and one large piece, from the following artists: Brian Cypher, Warren Dykeman, Emily Gherard, Robert Hardgrave and myself. Also exhibiting in the window gallery is Eve Cohen, whose 3-D figures are charming, slightly haunting and complex. Please be sure to stop by the gallery before the show closes on September 5th. studio e gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1-5 pm and is located at 609 Branson in Georgetown, Seattle.

Drawn to Scale Opening Saturday Night

Each have contributed one large and one small abstract piece of work to display on the expansive gallery walls at studio e gallery in Georgetown. Out of Sight!

Last night was the grand opening of the Out of Sight Art Fair (a survey of contemporary northwest art) and the Seattle Art Fair (blue chip galleries from New York, L.A. and beyond). Jen Graves of The Stranger says "Out of Sight is the real Seattle art fair." It's thrilling to have two of my pieces, Chemical Reaction and Incubation, included in Out of Site, which was curated by Kirsten Anderson, Sharon Arnold, Greg Lundgren and Sierra Stinson.

The line to get into the Century Link Exhibition Hall equalled any Seahawks event. Needless to say, Seattle is abuzz. The smorgesboard of contemporary art to see throughout the week-end is overwhelming and exciting. The annual Art of the City Fest will take place at the TK Building in Pioneer Square on Saturday and many of the artist studios in the building will be open throughout the week-end. Check out Satellite Seattle for a current list of events, locations and times. But whatever you do, go see some art!

Drawn to Scale at studio e gallery

studio e gallery has a terrific space with expansive walls and high-ceilings. What better location for an exhibit containing five painters and five large-scale works. It's exciting to be exhibiting my work, When the World Wasn't Round, 7'x12', mixed media on Tyvek, along side this terrific group of artists: Brian Cypher, Warren Dykeman, and Emily Gherard. Please join us for the opening during the Georgetown Art Attack, August 8, from 6-9 pm.
