I just returned from my first trip to the Whitney Biennial and am suffering all the symptoms of jet lag and the impact of seeing so much art. My head has been turned and twisted and, yes, it is spinning like Linda Blair's in the Exorcist.
My hands always begin to itch after time spent away from the studio while carefully observing the marks of so many other painters. The antidote requires arm movement, paintbrush in hand, exploring the canvas. Movement made without thinking too hard, this time on a painting I began just before the trip. It gives me visual bread crumbs to find my way back home.
