The root structures of mango trees captivate me. They remind me of the stability provided by family and friends, for staying still long enough in one place to understand its strengths and weaknesses, of the framework that makes up our lives that give us the ability to weather both bad and good times. For all of that in my own life I am very thankful.
These roots also remind me of the structure created by the Starn brothers, Big Bambu', which appears to represent collective randomness. Yet how can the roots of a mango tree be random? It makes me wonder if there really is such a thing as a random act. Physicists, of course, debate this issue. As I understand it, on the one hand randomness exists because events cannot be predicted with exactitude, possibly because we humans have yet to determine the reasons for seemingly randoms acts. No matter what the ultimate answer is it seems to me that a good mix of structure and randomness keeps life interesting.
