Circularity

Circularity Drawing #15, felt pen, 3"x4", 2012

Circularity is a new series of work that emerged this summer, first as small drawings (above). Each one is roughly 3" x 4".  Since I was spending so much time in the print studio learning drypoint, it was a natural progression to translate the drawings into this medium. The process turned out to be more daunting that I had first imagined. Incising the plate to create the right line quality, determining ink color and consistency, proper plate wiping, press pressure, paper size and texture were all new techniques. My first attempts were awkward at best and not very compelling.  Circularity I (below) represents my first successful drypoint translation. I'll have both the drawing and Circularity I hanging on the wall of my studio during art walk tomorrow night.
