Neither torrential rain, nor traffic (at one point it took almost 2 hrs to go 20 miles), nor customs inspections (got pulled aside for "random" inspection), nor witnessing an accident (no serious injuries) kept me from the Vancouver Art Gallery today. Go see the Kerry James Marshall exhibition. Some have arguably called him one of the best living American painters. His paintings are jammed packed with narrative that includes both nostalgic references and commentary on culture and politics that represent his view of the African American experience. His use of paint and space are intriguing and inspiring. Up until 1/3/11 and worth the trip. Honest.
